The Foundation of Every Mission
When people think about missions, they often picture action, serving, building, teaching, or meeting physical needs. While those things are important, we've learned that the most important work begins long before any project or program. It begins with prayer.
Early in our missions journey, we believed effectiveness depended on how much we could accomplish. But through experiences in places like Haiti, Afghanistan, Cairo, and Somaliland, God showed us that lasting transformation doesn't come from our plans. It comes from seeking His. Prayer isn't simply preparation for ministry. It is the greater work.
Prayer shifts our focus from our own ideas to God's strategy. Instead of asking, "What should we do?" we begin asking, "Lord, what are You already doing here, and how can we join You?" That posture changes everything. It reminds us that we are not responsible for creating the plan. We are called to faithfully follow the One who already has one.
Prayer also teaches us surrender. It requires us to admit that God's wisdom is greater than our own and that true transformation happens through His power, not ours. As we seek Him, our desire becomes less about accomplishing great things and more about seeing Christ glorified.
Again and again, we've seen the difference that prayer makes. Before beginning ministry, we prayer walk communities, asking God to reveal both the physical and spiritual needs around us. Time after time, He provides clarity, opens doors, and guides us in ways we never could have planned ourselves.
Choosing prayer first keeps God at the center of every mission. It reminds us that lasting change is not the result of our efforts alone, but of faithful people following His direction. When we surrender our plans and seek His heart first, we discover that prayer isn't the work before the work. It is the work.
