Partnership Changes Everything
For many years, missions often followed a familiar pattern. Churches in the Global North sent people, resources, and solutions to communities in the Global South. While God has used those efforts in powerful ways, we've come to realize that His design is even greater.
True missions are built on partnership.
Partnership means walking alongside one another, learning from each other, and equipping the local church to lead the work God has already called it to do. The church in the Global South is vibrant, growing, and uniquely positioned to reach its own communities. Rather than doing ministry for others, we have the opportunity to serve with them.
One experience that reshaped our thinking came during a dental outreach. After treating patients for several days, many people were still waiting for care when it was time for us to leave. We realized that no matter how much work we did, we could never meet every need on our own.
So we changed our approach.
Instead of simply providing dental care, we began training local believers in Ghana to safely perform basic tooth extractions while sharing the Gospel. When we returned later, they were still serving their communities. The ministry hadn't stopped when we left because it no longer depended on us.
That's the power of partnership.
When we equip local churches instead of creating dependency, the work continues long after a mission trip ends. The Kingdom grows because local believers are empowered to use the gifts and opportunities God has already given them.
Partnership isn't just a better strategy. It's a reflection of God's design for His Church. Together, every part of the body of Christ has something valuable to contribute, and together we can accomplish far more than we ever could alone.
